In Islamabad, Chairman of PTI, Barrister Gohar, emphasized the pivotal role of the Supreme Court in safeguarding democracy from disruption. Speaking outside Adiala Jail Rawalpindi, he reiterated the party’s commitment to ensuring timely elections, crucial for a fair democratic process. PTI’s stance focused on the appointment of Returning Officers (ROs) from the judiciary to ensure impartiality.
Highlighting PTI’s persistent efforts in the Supreme Court to defend democracy, Barrister Gohar expressed confidence in the court’s role in preventing derailment. Regarding the alleged baselessness of the Tosha Khana case against the former chairman, he deemed it a political vendetta.
The Chairman raised concerns about cases targeting the former chairman’s family, seemingly aimed at coercion. PTI, having previously relinquished power for fair elections, appealed for fair RO appointments to ensure a level playing field.
Barrister Gohar urged attention to the frequent detentions of PTI workers, stressing the party’s sole dedication to preserving democracy. He cautioned against hindrances to justice if notices were issued to petitioners, applauding the Supreme Court’s decision to set the election date for February 8. However, he noted restrictions on PTI’s participation in events and display of party symbols.
Reiterating the people’s right to choose their representatives, Barrister Gohar emphasized PTI’s commitment to justice, expressing dissatisfaction with the current scenario and advocating for RO appointments from the judiciary. PTI’s readiness for the elections, coupled with a level playing field, aimed at securing a substantial majority.
