The Chairman of Tehreek-e-Insaf has penned a letter to Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, urging the safeguarding of citizens’ fundamental rights. The correspondence highlights the alleged targeting of Tehreek-e-Insaf affiliates for reprisal, citing instances of enforced disappearances and coercive attempts to change political allegiances. The Chairman calls for an end to the arrests of politicians despite their bail statuses.
Furthermore, the Chairman appeals for the establishment of a commission specifically dedicated to investigating the forced disappearances of politicians. He also urges the Chief Justice to instruct the Election Commission, federal and provincial governments to permit PTI candidates to campaign freely. Additionally, the Chairman requests the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to provide equitable media coverage to PTI akin to other political parties.
Moreover, the Chairman points out that Senior Advocate Aitzaz Ahsan previously lodged a petition concerning the forced disappearances of politicians and considers this letter as a petition pursuant to Article 184(3) of the Constitution.
