The appointment of Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan as a member of the Supreme Judicial Council was legally contested in the Supreme Court.
Mian Dawood Advocate filed a constitutional petition challenging Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan’s inclusion in the Council during the proceedings against Justice Mazahir Naqvi. The petition, directed at the Federal Government and the Secretary of the Supreme Judicial Council, also includes the entire order sheet from the case involving former CCPO Ghulam Mehmood Dogar.
The crux of the petition rests on the argument that Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan, having been part of the bench that heard Ghulam Mehmood Dogar’s case, might have been involved in what’s described as bench-fixing. The petition urges the Supreme Court to declare Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan’s presence in the Supreme Judicial Council a violation of Articles 10A and 9 of the Constitution.
