In Islamabad, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja reassured the public that the electoral system is not reliant on the internet, hence any shutdowns would not impact its functioning. Addressing the media at the Election Commission, Raja emphasized that reports of mobile service suspensions should be verified through the media, adding that an internet shutdown would not disrupt the electoral process.
Raja affirmed that the Election Commission is fully equipped and prepared for the upcoming elections, ensuring fairness and transparency in the voting process. He emphasized the importance of voters’ freedom to choose their preferred candidates, highlighting that participating in elections is a national obligation that everyone should fulfill.
Regarding recent incidents of terrorism in Balochistan resulting in casualties, Raja mentioned that law enforcement agencies have decided to suspend internet services. While the commission can offer recommendations, Raja stressed that it should not interfere in decisions regarding the restoration of telephone and internet services.
