In a recent development, the Chief Justice of Pakistan has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad regarding a case concerning the harassment of journalists.
During a hearing at the Supreme Court regarding notices and harassment issued by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to journalists, the Chief Justice voiced his frustration, questioning the IG’s inability to apprehend the accused despite recorded evidence of the crimes.
Addressing the Attorney General, the Chief Justice criticized the IG’s performance, suggesting that such incompetence warranted removal from their position. Additionally, the Chief Justice pointed out the prolonged duration of the investigation, stating that after four years, it seemed as if the IG was facilitating rather than preventing crimes against journalists.
The Chief Justice highlighted the pressing nature of the issue, emphasizing that the entire country was observing the IG’s actions, which appeared to enable incidents such as journalist harassment, torture, and unlawful detainment, along with malfunctioning of surveillance cameras in the safe city program. Furthermore, it was mentioned that journalist Asad is currently incarcerated, with an FIR filed against him.
