After a decade of planning and construction, China has unveiled the world’s largest aquatic science park in Beijing, resembling a massive spaceship straight out of a science fiction film.
Situated in Zhuhai Province, the park goes by the name ‘Zhuhai Chimelong Marine Science Park’ and boasts an expansive area spanning 400,000 square meters, capable of accommodating up to 50,000 visitors. This colossal facility houses an impressive collection of 100,000 aquatic creatures, representing 300 different species, making it the largest aquarium globally. The science park features exhibitions centered around ten distinct themes, including a showcase of 100 living coral species. Originally slated for a 2021 opening, it has finally welcomed the public after encountering some delays.
Notably, the science park has secured two world records – one for possessing the largest window in an aquarium and another for boasting the largest live coral tank.
The project also includes a restaurant and accommodations, with a budget exceeding one billion dollars, and notably, the entire marine park is indoors.
