The caretaker government of Punjab has issued a ban on political gatherings, flag displays, and banners in garrison areas. The decision was made during a meeting of the Provincial Apex Committee, chaired by caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi and attended by Corps Commander Lahore Lieutenant General Syed Amir Raza, along with officials from various law enforcement agencies.
The meeting primarily focused on reviewing security arrangements for the upcoming general elections. Key points discussed included election arrangements presented by the Election Commissioner Punjab, discussions on safe transportation of ballot papers, and a three-tier deployment strategy involving police, rangers, and army troops.
Security measures for polling stations, installation of CCTV cameras, and the implementation of the Election Commission’s Code of Conduct were emphasized. The Apex Committee underscored the strict enforcement of a ban on the display and transportation of weapons on election day. Additionally, the monitoring of social media during the elections was highlighted, with plans to take action against those spreading misinformation.
The meeting concluded with a decision to disallow political gatherings, processions, and the display of flags and banners in garrison areas. Chief Secretary Punjab informed participants about a checklist and handbook provided for the guidance of police and other institutions.
Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi assured that all necessary measures would be taken to create a peaceful environment for voters, making participation in the elections conducive. Corps Commander Lahore Lieutenant General Syed Amir Raza expressed commitment to ensuring security through close cooperation among various departments. The meeting also commended joint efforts to thwart a recent terrorist attack in Dera Ghazi Khan, reaffirming commitment to mutual cooperation in line with the National Action Plan.
