A contempt of court notice was issued to the superintendent of Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi for failing to meet the relatives of former Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed during the bail applications hearing related to the May 9 tragedy.
Judge Malik Ijaz Asif from the Special Anti-Terrorism Court instructed the superintendent to provide a response by January 26, questioning why the court order to meet the accused’s relatives was not followed. Additionally, the court demanded a medical check-up for Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed from a government hospital.
During the hearing, the public prosecutor was absent, and the police did not present the records, leading the court to express strong displeasure and demand the records within two hours. The bail applications for PTI founder Imran Khan, former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and Sheikh Rasheed were adjourned until 11:30 am.
Due to the non-submission of challans in all 12 cases and the central prosecutor’s absence, the hearing was further adjourned until January 27. Prosecutor Haseeb Sultan explained that the investigation team had gone to Lahore with the records, prompting the court to order the presentation of complete records on a future date.
