In the Khurd Berd case, the Accountability Court has granted an additional 3-day physical remand for Fawad Chaudhry at the request of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The corruption cases against Fawad Chaudhry were deliberated in the NAB court, where the NAB prosecutor argued that more time was required for the inquiry, prompting the request for an extension of Fawad Chaudhry’s physical remand. The court has approved this extension for another 3 days.
Safai Amir Abbas, the lawyer, emphasized the necessity of specifying in any order that judges are on duty and not physically present in court. He raised questions about the establishment of a housing society, urging the presentation of any No Objection Certificate (NOC). Addressing allegations related to the project, he questioned the involvement of Tinder and demanded evidence if it did not occur. Abbas also advocated for filing cases under Section 420 for personal matters instead of resorting to NAB arrests. He argued that arrests should be based on specific investigations in the early stages.
Amir Abbas further called for the exhibition of any housing society files and expressed concern about the 30-day remand, suggesting it might be aimed at influencing the election process. He argued that a lack of proof regarding a loss to the public exchequer and the contractors’ contribution of 18 lakhs needed clarification on what they received in return. Emphasizing the need for cogent reasons for extension, he highlighted the extension of physical remand from 14 to 30 days through a previous government amendment.
