The Punjab government has made a decision to introduce a package for individuals consuming less than 300 units of electricity prior to the budget announcement.
Punjab’s Finance Minister, Mujtaba Shujaur Rahman, revealed this during discussions with journalists at the Punjab Assembly premises. He stated that preparations are underway to roll out this package, which will be unveiled in the upcoming June budget. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has established a committee to oversee this initiative and intends to announce the scheme beforehand.
Rahman highlighted that over two and a half crore families in Punjab fall within the category of using 300 units or less of electricity. He attributed the escalating prices of electricity and gas to the federal government, blaming the PTI’s incompetence for these hikes. Despite these challenges, Punjab currently holds reserves of 300 billion rupees, boasting a stronger economic standing compared to other provinces. Rahman also emphasized significant improvements made to Punjab’s tax system.
