Ulaanbaatar: Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Mongolia despite an arrest warrant from the International Court of Justice, where he was warmly welcomed.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for the Russian president last year. Russian leaders are wanted by the International Court of Justice over the alleged illegal deportation of Ukrainian children.
The President of Mongolia welcomed him in a grand ceremony in the capital Ulaanbaatar.
A Kremlin spokesman has said they are not concerned that President Putin will be arrested during the visit.
Troops on horseback saluted the Russian leader as he met with Mongolian President Okhnagin Kharelsukh at Genghis Khan Square in the capital.
A small group of protesters gathered in Genghis Khan Square on Monday afternoon, carrying a banner that read “Get war criminal Putin out of here,” before police dispersed the protesters.
Before his visit, Ukraine had urged Mongolia to arrest President Putin.
