In Lahore, the High Court dismissed a petition challenging the inclusion of Nawaz Sharif’s image on the Kisan card, citing withdrawal.
Justice Shahid Karim presided over the case brought by citizen Mishkoor Hussain. The petitioner’s legal representative argued that the Supreme Court has consistently prohibited the use of public funds for personal promotion, citing an official statement from the Punjab government.
The Punjab government’s lawyer countered by stating that such allegations were premature, and if indeed such actions were taken, a new application should be filed. The citizen’s petition contended that featuring Nawaz Sharif’s photo on the Kisan Card, approved by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, constitutes a misuse of public funds for personal promotion, violating both constitutional and legal standards, as well as Supreme Court directives.
The petitioner urged the Lahore High Court to intervene, halt the distribution of Kisan cards bearing Nawaz Sharif’s image, and seek reimbursement of expenses incurred for this purpose from Nawaz Sharif, pending a final decision on the matter.
