Dry cold and smog; 230 more cases of pneumonia reported in Punjab.

In Lahore, the incidence of pneumonia is increasing due to smog and dry cold, with an additional 230 cases reported in Punjab within the past 24 hours.

news reveals that Lahore alone has seen 135 new cases of typhoid during the same period, bringing the total in the city to 1290. Across Punjab, the total number of children affected by typhoid has risen to 7963.

Tragically, pneumonia is proving fatal for children, with 7 deaths reported in Punjab and 2 in Lahore within the last 24 hours. The overall number of children succumbing to pneumonia in the province has reached 179. Hospitals in Lahore, particularly Children’s Hospital, are grappling with a surge in cases, treating over 58 children for pneumonia, chest infections, and viral infections.

Notably, there is a scarcity of pneumonia vaccines and medications in the general market, posing significant challenges for the families of affected individuals. In response to the situation, the Director of CTD has issued an appeal to parents, urging them to ensure their children complete the immunization course to safeguard against pneumonia and other diseases.
