Due to security concerns, four universities in Islamabad have been temporarily shut down. Express News reports that security agencies issued a threat alert, expressing fears of potential attacks on educational institutions in the city.
As a precautionary measure, Quaid-e-Azam University, National Defense University, Air University, and Bahria University have been closed indefinitely. Late-night search operations were conducted in the outskirts of Islamabad, but no information about arrests has been disclosed.
The threat alert specifically mentioned the possibility of attacks, including suicide bombings, by a banned organization. Students were notified about the sudden closure late at night, and there is no specified timeline for when these universities will reopen; it is anticipated that they will remain closed for several days.
In response to the situation, the Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad released a video message assuring the public that the security and law and order situation in Islamabad is under control. Dr. Akbar Nasir emphasized a ban on illegal gatherings in the city and urged people not to alter their routines or educational institutions based on unfounded fears. He reiterated the police’s commitment to maintaining a secure environment and encouraged the public not to be swayed by rumors or take actions that could compromise security.
