Abid Zuberi, the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, has expressed strong concerns about the Election Commission’s disregard for both court orders and the constitution.
He emphasized that if the courts cannot enforce their decisions, there should be serious consequences, even suggesting the possibility of locking the courts.
Speaking at a lawyers’ convention, Abid Zuberi stressed that the Supreme Court Bar Association is dedicated to upholding the law and the constitution, and it values the sacrifices made by the country’s martyrs. He expressed confidence that, in time, the constitution and the law will prevail.
Zuberi also highlighted the fleeting nature of positions and names in the political landscape. He noted that a petition was filed in the Supreme Court for elections, and a decision was reached within ninety days, but regrettably, the Supreme Court’s decision has not yet been put into effect. He criticized the lack of unity among judges and urged them to work together to prevent such situations.
In addition to these concerns, Zuberi mentioned that the Supreme Court Bar Association had previously filed a petition against military courts, despite facing challenges. He announced their intention to challenge both the Official Secrets Act and the Military Act.
Furthermore, Abid Zuberi criticized the Election Commission for blatantly disregarding court orders, the constitution, and the law. He went as far as suggesting that Article 6, which deals with high treason, should be invoked against the Election Commissioner.
