Election Commission; There exists a common belief that interim government is an extension of preceding administration.

In a communication addressed to the Principal Secretary of the Interim Prime Minister in Islamabad, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has advised against appointing individuals with political affiliations to the cabinet.

The letter, sent by the Secretary of the Election Commission, Zafar Iqbal, to Syed Toqeer Hussain Shah, the Principal Secretary of the Caretaker Prime Minister, underscores the importance of avoiding the appointment of cabinet members with political ties during the interim government’s tenure.

The correspondence highlights a prevailing perception that the caretaker administration is seen as an extension of the previous government. This concern was brought to the fore by a political party during a recent press conference, where accusations were made regarding the continuation of the previous government’s legacy under the caretaker government.

The letter further emphasizes the need to prioritize impartiality when selecting senior civil servants for crucial positions, underscoring the importance of maintaining a non-partisan approach in such appointments.
