ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has issued a summons notice for Qasim Suri in the electoral fraud case.
Qasim Suri failed to appear once again despite the Supreme Court’s summons, prompting the court to order that the summons notice be posted outside his residence.
Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa noted that according to the records, Qasim Suri’s brother, Bilal, refused to accept the notice. He stated that Qasim Suri is deliberately avoiding appearing in court, describing the former Deputy Speaker’s avoidance as unfortunate.
Addressing Qasim Suri’s lawyer, Naeem Bukhari, Chief Justice Faiz Isa pointed out that Suri is very active in the media and on social media. Naeem Bukhari responded that he does not watch TV.
The Chief Justice remarked on the irony, noting that Bukhari is a TV personality who does not watch television. He then inquired if Bukhari was familiar with X or Twitter. Naeem Bukhari replied that he does not use social media and does not know how to use it. The Chief Justice encouraged him to stay young and up-to-date, to which Bukhari responded that he has grown old.
Justice Irfan Saadat commented that Bukhari once mentioned on a TV program that his friends do not let him grow old.
Naeem Bukhari stated that he has no contact with Qasim Suri. Chief Justice Faiz Isa then announced that the next hearing will be held in July, with the specific date to be set in the court order.
The court adjourned the hearing until next month.
