Islamabad: Former Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has submitted a letter to the Election Commission, officially declaring his withdrawal from the upcoming general elections.
Chaudhry, along with his faction, has opted to boycott the election process. In his letter, he emphasized the fundamental purpose of elections as a means for people to choose their representatives. However, he questioned the significance of elections when genuine choices are absent. Highlighting his own predicament, Chaudhry mentioned facing arrest in alleged fake cases and encountering obstacles in the submission of his nomination papers. He further revealed that his brother was arrested upon reaching Jhelum to file papers, accompanied by threats preventing his return to Jhelum. Chaudhry asserted that his arrest was orchestrated to coerce his withdrawal from the election.
In a poetic reference to the alleged manipulation of the electoral process, Chaudhry quoted Waris Shah, stating, “Gulian Ho Jan Sanjian te Vich Mirza Yaar Phire.”
It is worth noting that this development follows similar decisions by other Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, including Murad Saeed and Azam Swati, who have also withdrawn from the general elections and returned their party tickets.
