Participants of the 83rd Formation Commanders Conference in Islamabad emphasized the importance of bringing to justice those involved in the events of May 9, stressing that it is crucial for the country’s greater good. Chaired by Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir, the conference included Corps Commanders, Principal Staff Officers, and other Pakistan Army formation commanders. A tribute was paid to the martyrs, and the conference acknowledged the sacrifices made by armed forces personnel, law enforcement agencies, and civilians for the nation’s security and independence.
The conference underscored the necessity of establishing the rule of law and ensuring transparent legal proceedings against the perpetrators of May 9 to prevent similar incidents in the future. Participants were briefed on the geo-strategic landscape, emerging security challenges, and Pakistan Army’s strategy to counter various threats while enhancing modernization and logistical support for field formations. Concerns were raised about cross-border violations from Afghanistan and the use of Afghan territory for planning terrorist activities targeting Pakistan.
Acknowledging the sacrifices of those in the merged districts against terrorism, the conference stressed the importance of their socio-economic development. Similarly, it emphasized the need for socio-economic progress in Balochistan to counter external influences aiming to disrupt peace and development in the region.
Regarding the eastern border situation, the conference condemned extrajudicial killings in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and expressed solidarity with Kashmiris’ struggle for self-determination. It also voiced concerns over minority rights violations in India and supported the Palestinian people against human rights violations in Gaza.
The conference supported the International Court of Justice’s decision to halt operations in Gaza and condemned digital terrorism aimed at destabilizing state institutions, particularly Pakistan’s forces. It affirmed Pakistan’s resolve to counter such nefarious acts and praised the government’s initiatives for sustainable economic development and security measures.
Lastly, the conference commended the high standards of training, performance in counter-terrorism operations, and morale of military formations. It expressed satisfaction with measures taken for the welfare of serving and retired personnel, culminating in a pledge to thwart any threats to the country’s security and stability with the full support of the nation.
