Officers working in DISCOS (electricity distribution companies) and generation companies in Islamabad will no longer receive free electricity. Instead, the Ministry of Energy has introduced a new policy where officers of Grade 17 and above will receive a cash allowance in place of the previously allocated free units.

Under this new arrangement, officers in Grade 17 will receive Rs 15,858 monthly, replacing the earlier 450 free units. Grade 18 officers will receive Rs 21,996 instead of the previous 600 free units. For Grade 19 officers, the cash allowance will be Rs 37,594 per month, in lieu of 880 free units. Grade 20 officers will now receive Rs 46,992 instead of the earlier 1100 units.

Moreover, Grade 21 officers will receive Rs 55,536 monthly instead of the previous 1300 free units. The policy also extends to officers in production companies, where the 650 units per month benefit for Grade 17 officers has been replaced by a cash allowance of Rs 24,570. Grade 18 officers will now receive Rs 26,460 instead of the earlier 700 units per month.

For Jenkoz, Grade 19 officers will receive Rs 42,720 per month instead of the previous 1,000 free units, and Grade 20 officers will get Rs 46,992 in place of the 1100 units previously allotted. Grade 21 officers in Jenkoz will receive Rs 55,536 per month instead of the earlier 1300 units.

This decision to replace free units with monetary allowances for these officers was approved by the Energy Committee of the Cabinet and subsequently gained approval from the federal cabinet. The change will now be formally implemented.
