In Punjab, there has been a renewed effort to clamp down on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) supporters. Police officers have received updated lists for the arrest of PTI workers throughout the province. This crackdown follows a statement made by PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi. Qureshi had urged the party’s members to celebrate Independence Day in a significant manner, which seems to have triggered these actions. The authorities have directed the police to ensure that the PTI party flag is not visible in any location.
The recent detentions of PTI workers are reportedly linked to events from May 9. Police conducted over 100 raids last night in pursuit of these individuals. In cases where the intended targets were not located, close family members were brought in for questioning at the police station. Many of those detained have been subsequently released on personal bail after proper verification.
