Miran Shah: Recent natural gas discoveries have been made in the Shiva One and Shiva Two regions of North Waziristan.
Mari Petroleum Company has identified fresh gas reserves while drilling two wells in the Shiva area of North Waziristan. These reserves account for 5% of the nation’s total domestic gas demand. Moreover, 73% of the pipeline required to connect these reserves to the national grid has already been constructed.
As per Mari Petroleum’s Chief of Staff, Asad Raza, a local processing plant has been established to refine the gas before it is fed into SNGPL’s pipeline. The development project has also prioritized the employment of skilled workers from the local community. These new reserves are expected to decrease reliance on LNG imports, potentially saving up to $265 million in foreign exchange annually.
