Technology giant Google has finally hinted at introducing its own privacy sandbox. The feature was first announced by Google in August 2019 with the aim of replacing third-party browser cookies.
Users have been waiting for this feature for the past four years, while no update has been given by the company. Recently, in a blog post, Google has detailed the features expected in the launch of Chrome 115.
According to developer relations engineer Adriana Jara, Chrome 115, launching on July 18, will begin the launch of the privacy sandbox by phasing out third-party cookies and other mechanisms. These mechanisms track user browsing trends and content of interest.
Chrome will use the Topix API instead. The Topix API allows Chrome to provide user information to third parties such as advertisers, but along with some privacy concerns.
Adriana Jara wrote that Topix Ad Tech platforms have a signal to help them make appropriate ad choices. Unlike third-party cookies, Topix-related information is shared without revealing additional user information.
