Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has expressed his view that the defamation law should not have been hastily enacted, but rather should have undergone consultation.
Speaking at an event where appointment letters were being given to visually impaired individuals in Rawalpindi, Governor Punjab Nape emphasized that the defamation law shouldn’t be considered final, urging for discussions with journalistic organizations and stakeholders. He admitted to not having reviewed the law yet, mentioning plans to scrutinize it with his legal team before forming an opinion. Governor Punjab advocated for a reconsideration of the defamation law, expressing hope for its revision.
Governor Punjab voiced his concern about rampant corruption, stating that it has plagued the nation for far too long. He lamented the impunity with which funds meant for the welfare of the populace are misappropriated, attributing this to systemic weaknesses. He also criticized the historical prevalence of corruption in Pakistani elections, holding all political parties accountable. He stressed the futility of pointing fingers without tangible action. During the event, Governor Punjab presented appointment letters to 49 visually impaired individuals for various positions in Punjab’s departments, reaffirming his commitment to utilizing all available resources for the welfare of the visually impaired. He regarded serving humanity as a form of worship and emphasized that employment is a fundamental right for everyone. He commended the resilience of visually impaired individuals who have not let their disability hinder their progress.
