The petition requesting the revocation of bail for Maryam Nawaz, a prominent leader of the Muslim League (Nawaz), in a case involving disproportionate assets compared to her income, is scheduled for a forthcoming hearing. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) lodged this petition four years ago.
As reported by Express News, NAB has submitted a plea to the Supreme Court for the cancellation of bail granted to the Sharif family in a case related to possessing assets beyond their known sources of income. The Supreme Court has scheduled the hearing, which will be presided over by a two-member bench led by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial and including Justice Athar Minullah. This hearing is slated to take place on August 22.
It is pertinent to mention that NAB had initially filed a request to invalidate Maryam Nawaz’s bail concerning allegations of owning assets exceeding her income, specifically in connection with the Shamim Sugar Mills case. NAB presented this application to the Supreme Court on December 4, 2019. The upcoming August 22 hearing will mark the first legal proceeding in this matter.
