Dubai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced to increase the prize money of next month’s T20 World Cup to a record 7960 thousand dollars.
According to a Reuters report, the ICC said in a statement that the total prize money for the Women’s T20 World Cup will be $7.96 million, with the winning team receiving $2.34 million, $1 million more than champions Australia will receive in the 2023 tournament. There will be more.
Earlier, the Indian men’s team received a prize money of $2.45 million in this year’s T20 World Cup and a total of $11.25 million was paid in the Men’s World Cup.
The ICC said in a statement that the initiative is aimed at adopting a strategy of prioritizing women’s cricket and promoting it further till 2032.
The statement said that now the teams occupying the same position will get equal amount and similarly the winning teams will also be given prize money on the basis of equality.
The ICC said the prize money for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 was higher than the other 10 teams participating in the event and 32 more matches were played.
The losing team in the Women’s T20 World Cup final will receive $1.17 million, while the other 10 participating teams will be paid $112,500.
It should be noted that the Women’s T20 World Cup will be played in the United Arab Emirates from October 3 to October 20, which has been shifted here after the political tension in Bangladesh during the last few months.
