
Lahore: Dr. Usman Anwar, the Inspector General of Punjab, has emphasized the vigilance of Punjab Police in ensuring the peaceful conduct of elections, vowing to thwart any malicious intentions of anti-national elements.
As per reports, a comprehensive dress rehearsal was undertaken to assess the security arrangements by Punjab Police for the upcoming 2024 elections. The rehearsal included a thorough examination of security, traffic management, and logistical plans across all regions and districts of the province, with a focus on the safe transportation of election materials and deployment of personnel at polling stations. The review also encompassed the monitoring of CCTV cameras.
The spokesperson for Punjab Police highlighted that senior officers briefed personnel on their duties for polling day, and special operations such as blockades and search-and-sweep activities were carried out throughout the province. Additionally, rehearsals were scrutinized, and flag marches were organized in all districts, involving district police, dolphin squad, police response unit, elite force, and traffic police.
Dr. Usman Anwar underscored that the purpose of the dress rehearsal and other measures is to enhance the citizens’ sense of security. He assured that Punjab Police is fully prepared to maintain peace during the elections, emphasizing the need for heightened alertness in the current national situation. The Inspector General stated that collaborative efforts with other institutions will be in place to ensure law and order on election day, with strict legal actions against those disrupting peace.
