Ijaz Butt, the former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief, has passed away in Lahore at the age of 85 after battling a prolonged illness and paralysis. He served as the head of the PCB from 2008 to 2011 and was a former cricketer, representing the national team in 8 Test matches.
During his tenure as PCB chief, there was a significant match-fixing scandal that came to light in 2009 and 2010, leading to bans for players like Mohammad Amir, Salman Butt, and Mohammad Asif. Interestingly, under Younis Khan’s leadership, the national team also achieved success, winning the ICC T20 World Cup in 2009.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed deep sorrow to Ijaz Butt’s family and friends upon hearing the news of his passing.
