The Anti-Terrorism Court has approved a 3-day physical remand for Iman Mazari, following her re-arrest shortly after being granted bail.

The court heard the case related to the Bahara Kahu police station and considered a prosecutor’s request for physical remand.

During the hearing, Prosecutor Raja Naveed argued that Iman Mazari is accused of gathering funds for anti-state activities and should be remanded to facilitate the investigation. The aim is to recover the alleged money and identify potential co-conspirators.

Iman Mazari’s attorney, Zainab Janjua, countered that an FIR was filed against her on August 26, 2023, while she was already in jail awaiting a bail hearing. The lawyer highlighted that multiple FIRs shouldn’t arise from a single incident, expressing concerns about the misuse of court proceedings. Janjua mentioned that Iman Mazari had not interacted with the complainant, denied taking money, and stressed that she was not an official of the PTM (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf). Her financial records, phone, and laptop are in police custody.

The prosecutor argued that granting a rally NOC doesn’t entail endorsing anti-state slogans. The defense stated that Iman Mazari is cooperating with the investigation and that physical remand is unnecessary. They pointed out potential misuse of the legal system for personal vendettas.

Subsequently, the Anti-Terrorism Court, presided over by Judge Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain, reserved its decision on the physical remand request. Later, the court approved a 3-day physical remand for Iman Mazari, who was handed over to the police custody.
