The IMF has clarified that there have been no talks between Pakistan and the IMF regarding the agreements between China and Pakistan.
The IMF stated that discussions on member countries’ agreements are not within their purview, and it is up to Pakistan to seek financial assistance from financial institutions and friendly nations.
As per reports from private TV channels, the IMF mentioned that discussions during the July 2023 meetings with political parties focused on the success of Pakistan’s economic program. Following these discussions, elections took place, and the standby arrangement agreement, which spans nine months, is set to expire in April. The IMF advised Pakistan to freeze its budget to mitigate the deficit and warned that interest rates may need to be increased if Pakistan fails to control its revolving debt.
The IMF noted that while Pakistan’s economic progress is promising, challenges persist.
