The Army Chief, General Syed Asim Munir, Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military), received a warm welcome during his visit to the United States.
He engaged in meetings with top US government and military officials, including Secretary of State Anthony J. Blankenship, Defense Minister General Lloyd J. Austin, Deputy National Security Adviser Jonathan Finer, Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Discussions during these meetings centered around bilateral interests, global and regional security concerns, and ongoing international conflicts. Emphasis was placed on defense cooperation, especially in counter-terrorism efforts, with a mutual agreement to sustain collaborative endeavors for shared interests. Commitment to ongoing dialogue on mutual concerns was reaffirmed.
General Syed Asim Munir highlighted the significance of comprehending regional security challenges and their impact on South Asia. Specifically, he stressed the importance of addressing the Kashmir issue in accordance with international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
Additionally, the Army Chief engaged with the Pakistani community abroad at an event organized by the Pakistani Embassy. He commended the community for its positive contributions to Pakistan’s development and encouraged overseas Pakistanis to invest in the country, citing the achievements of the Sindh Infrastructure Development Company (SIFC).
Highlighting America as Pakistan’s largest export market, constituting 21.5% of total exports, General Munir dispelled rumors about visa restrictions for overseas Pakistanis, emphasizing their valued role and respect within Pakistan. Overseas Pakistanis were recognized as ambassadors and assets of the nation.
The Pakistani community abroad expressed pride in the Pakistan Army and acknowledged its contributions to the nation. General Syed Asim Munir conveyed good wishes to the Pakistani community abroad.
