The Islamabad High Court has decided to halt the sentence of the founder of PTI and Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana NAB reference.
During the High Court session regarding the appeal against the conviction of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana NAB case, the court inquired about the scheduled hearing for the appeal. Lawyer Ali Zafar stated that instead of immediately suspending the sentence, they would prefer to focus on the central appeal.
Chief Justice Amir Farooq mentioned that the Cipher case is set for a hearing the next day and would take a few days to complete, indicating that the Toshakhana case couldn’t be heard that day. Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb asked the NAB prosecutor if NAB had any objections to suspending the sentence, to which the prosecutor replied that while they had no objection to suspending the sentence, the appeals couldn’t be heard yet.
The court appreciated NAB’s stance, deeming it commendable. The counsel representing the PTI founder argued for the suspension of the sentence. However, Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb suggested leaving the matter as it is, especially since it’s also in the Supreme Court.
Ultimately, the court decided to suspend the sentence of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case, citing the statement of the NAB prosecutor as a significant factor in their decision.
