Imran Khan, the founder chairman of PTI, has taken legal action by challenging the Election Commission’s contempt proceedings and the planned trial in Lahore’s High Court.
An application has been submitted to the Lahore High Court by Imran Khan’s representatives, Salman Akram Raja and Barrister Sameer Khosa, on behalf of the former Prime Minister. This application names the Federal Government, the Election Commission, and the Superintendent of Adiala Jail as parties.
The petition argues that the Election Commission has initiated illegal proceedings, asserting that the Election Commission lacks the authority of a court. Moreover, it deems the decision for a trial in jail as unlawful.
Imran Khan’s petition emphasizes that the clandestine nature of the jail trial violates Article 4 of the Constitution. The Election Commission has scheduled December 13 for the indictment proceedings within the jail. Imran Khan urges the Lahore High Court to nullify the Election Commission’s decision for a secretive trial, calling for an open, fair trial, and a halt to the secret indictment proceedings until a final decision is reached on the application.
