In the Tosha Khana case, Imran Khan, the Chairman of Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been sentenced to three years in prison by the Islamabad Sessions Court Judge, Humayun Dilawar. The court had summoned Imran Khan personally for the hearing, but no lawyer appeared on behalf of PTI initially.
During the hearing, PTI’s lawyer, Khalid Yusuf, informed the court that Khawaja Haris, who is representing Imran Khan in another case, was busy and needed some time. However, the Election Commission’s lawyer, Amjad Pervez, mentioned that Khawaja Haris was also asked to attend the hearing.
The judge inquired about the case that Khawaja Haris was occupied with, and it was revealed that he was handling the bail case of Chairman PTI and Bushra Bibi in the accountability court. The judge adjourned the hearing until 12 o’clock due to the conflicting information.
After several recesses, Khawaja Haris and PTI’s lawyer, Naeem Panjotha, finally appeared in the court. Khawaja Haris expressed his desire to file a transfer application against the judge.
Despite the Islamabad High Court’s decision rejecting the request to transfer the Tosha Khana case to another court, Chief Justice Aamir Farooq annulled the Sessions Court’s decision to declare the case as criminal proceedings admissible. The Chief Justice instructed the session court to reconsider the admissibility of the case and address the points raised in the petition during their decision-making process.
However, in the latest ruling, the Sessions Court found Imran Khan guilty of the charges related to the Tosha Khana case, including the disclosure of false assets. Consequently, he has been sentenced to three years in prison and ordered to pay a fine of one lakh rupees.
The court has warned that if Imran Khan fails to pay the fine, he will have to serve an additional term in prison.
