Imran Khan, the founder of PTI, has stated that he anticipates spending approximately five to six months in jail and predicts the downfall of the current government.
Speaking from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, he commented on ongoing legal proceedings, accusing Hasan Sharif of suspicious financial transactions and highlighting previous controversies involving the Nawaz family.
Regarding the country’s political landscape, Khan criticized what he perceives as collusion between the caretaker government, the Election Commission, and the establishment. He expressed concerns over the IMF program’s potential to exacerbate inflation and emphasized the need for political stability before accepting further loans.
Khan identified the shortage of foreign reserves as a significant economic challenge but expressed confidence in attracting investment from overseas Pakistanis once stability is restored. He referenced alleged attempts to discredit PTI, including plans to depict them as traitors, which he believes have failed.
Addressing diplomatic relations, Khan lamented deteriorating ties with Iran and Afghanistan, attributing this to the benefit of the country’s adversaries. He claimed involvement in facilitating dialogue between the Taliban and the United States during his tenure, criticizing the removal of certain military officials.
Khan accused opponents of exploiting social media to sow discord between PTI and the military, emphasizing his past support for General Sarfaraz and denying any official social media criticism of the army. He pledged to invite all parties affected by electoral rigging to a meeting on March 23, including Sheikh Rasheed and Maulana Fazlur Rehman, although he was unsure of their attendance.
