Shabnam, a popular actress of the past and called the queen of the silver screen, says that in view of the current situation in Pakistan, filmmakers here should make comedy films, as there is a huge demand for them.
The popular actress of the past said that a good script is the essence of a good film and she thinks that good films are being made in Pakistan at the moment.
He cited the mega budget and cast film ‘The Legend of Mola Jat’ released last year as an example.
In response to a question, she admitted that the people of Pakistan still love her and watch her films with great passion, for which she will forever be indebted to her Pakistani fans.
When asked about not working in Pakistani films in recent times, Shabnam said that she has not been offered a job in any film and the second is that she is now too old, she is 76 years old. So paying attention to health is their first choice.
Regarding her last performance in films, Shabnam said that she last acted in the Bengali language film ‘Aman Jaan’ 24 years ago in 1999 and her said film is still popular in Bangladesh.
Recalling the time spent in Pakistan, he said that he worked in the Pakistani film industry for 30 years and how could he forget his popular films like ‘Dil Lagi, Bandish, Durian, Aina and Lazwal’?
Recalling the past, he said that when he and Nadeem were shooting for ‘Dil Lagi’, they thought that the said film might fail at the box office but it surprisingly became a super hit.
Shabnam recalled the heyday of Pakistani film industry and said that then everything was peaceful but now things are changing and the film industry of the whole world is changing with the passage of time.
She said that even today, whenever she gets time, she watches her old Pakistani movies on YouTube.
When asked about her favorite songs, Shabnam said that she loves the melody songs of all her films, but ‘Meh Dil Se Na Bhallana, Hum Ko Khokar Pachthauge and Hina Ki Khushbo’ are still very close to her heart.
Regarding his favorite actresses, he said that Shahnaz Sheikh and Ruhi Bano are his favorite TV actresses.
Regarding coming to Pakistan, Shabnam said that she has always loved visiting Pakistan, as she spent 30 years of her life there and that an artist knows no borders.
It should be noted that actress Shabnam started acting in Pakistani films before 1960 and she worked continuously in the Pakistani film industry for 30 years till the mid-1980s.
Her original name was Jharna Basak, she was born in East Pakistan (Bangladesh) after the partition of India and she received her primary education there. Rukhkia and became the first choice of film makers of Lahore and remained their first choice for many years.
Shabnam has also worked with popular Pakistani heroes of the past, including Waheed Murad, Muhammad Ali and Nadeem, among others, and has acted in a total of around 200 films, mostly Urdu-language films.
Shabnam was married to renowned subcontinental musician Ruben Ghosh in 1964, after which they both moved to Bangladesh in 1996 and returned to Pakistan in 2012, almost thirteen years later.
Ruben Ghosh died in February 2016 in Dhaka at the age of 76 after a long illness.
