Ten thousand tons of Indian wheat reached Herat, western province of Afghanistan. A video of wheat arriving in Afghanistan has been posted by the World Food Program (WFP).
WFP said that the wheat donated by the Government of India to WFP has arrived in Herat, where it will be distributed to poor families across Afghanistan.
The wheat is part of India’s contribution of 10,000 metric tonnes on top of 40,000 tonnes in 2022. After Pakistan did not open road routes for wheat shipments to Afghanistan in 2021, India has sent goods to Afghanistan via Iran.
Following months of negotiations, the previous government finally allowed Indian wheat trucks to enter Afghanistan from Pakistani territory in 2022, shortly after the Taliban returned to power in Kabul in August 2021.
