Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi has emphasized that there are no directives to suspend mobile and internet services during elections.
He stated that while security is a significant concern, the government has not issued any instructions to shut down communication services for elections. Local administrations can make decisions based on the law and order situation in specific areas.
Solangi acknowledged the seriousness of security issues and mentioned that extraordinary situations may require special measures. However, he clarified that there is currently no such extraordinary situation. He highlighted the challenge of combating fake news, propaganda, and maintaining security on social media platforms. Pakistan’s commitment to counter terrorism remains strong.
The Caretaker Information Minister pointed out that the establishment of the interim government by the Afghan Taliban in Kabul has led to an increase in the activities of various terrorist groups in Pakistan. He mentioned that there were approximately 1500 incidents of terrorism in the previous year alone.
Solangi also mentioned that the Ministry of Information has set up an online helpline to facilitate local and foreign journalists and observers.
