Islamabad: Murtaza Solangi, the Caretaker Minister of Information and Broadcasting, emphasized that peaceful protests are a legitimate right, but he stressed that violent actions and targeting government personnel are not permissible.
In his statement addressing the ongoing protests against high electricity bills across various regions, the Information and Broadcasting Minister underscored that merely protesting, burning bills, and refusing to pay will not lead to reduced electricity costs.
He emphasized that non-payment of electricity bills could result in widespread power outages, and the resolution of these issues requires a combination of comprehension, cooperation, and effective governmental strategies.
During a recent appearance on a private TV channel, the interim Federal Minister for Information, Murtaza Solangi, revealed that the cabinet had discussed several proposals. While some decisions have been reached, others await implementation pending discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He conveyed that Shamshad Akhtar, the Caretaker Finance Minister, is in communication with the IMF. To address matters like the primary surplus and circular debt, decisions will be taken after assessing these factors and will involve collaboration with the IMF. An announcement regarding electricity bills is expected within a few hours.
