Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations, has expressed deep concern about the situation in Gaza, where he believes that children are tragically bearing the brunt of Israel’s military actions.
Guterres shared his concerns during a press briefing, highlighting that Israel’s military strikes are consistently impacting areas such as refugee camps, hospitals, places of worship, and UN-sanctioned shelters. He emphasized that no one is immune from the effects of these Israeli attacks.
Guterres further conveyed that these ongoing attacks are transforming Gaza into a distressing scene, particularly for its young residents, as it becomes, in his words, “a graveyard for children.” He called for both Israel and Hamas to take immediate actions to facilitate a humanitarian ceasefire. According to Guterres, the situation in Gaza has escalated into a severe humanitarian crisis, making a ceasefire an imperative measure to mitigate the suffering, with the urgency for such an intervention increasing with each passing moment.
