In Islamabad, the Supreme Judicial Council has submitted a written opinion regarding the allegations against Mazahir Naqvi.
The council’s detailed 33-page opinion, authored by Chairman Qazi Faiz Isa, concludes that the corruption accusations against Naqvi have been substantiated. Consequently, the judiciary’s reputation has been tarnished, leading to a recommendation that Naqvi’s name not be associated with the title of judge.
Furthermore, the council commended various legal bodies, including the Pakistan Bar Council, Islamabad Bar Council, four provincial bar councils, and Mian Dadu, for their commitment to judicial accountability and the rule of law. The Attorney General was also acknowledged for his unwavering support.
The council found Naqvi guilty of misconduct, citing multiple instances where he breached his oath, abused his position for personal gain, and failed to explain certain financial transactions, including gifts received. Testimony from a witness revealed the transfer of funds to Naqvi’s daughter, while questions were raised about his financial resources to acquire properties.
While the council refrained from making judgments about Naqvi’s financial standing, it emphasized that the allegations were thoroughly examined. Despite not labeling Naqvi as greedy, the council noted instances where his actions seemed to prioritize personal interests over judicial integrity.
