The Islamabad High Court dismissed the pleas from relevant institutions regarding the removal of Justice Babar Sattar from the audio leaks case, imposing a fine of five lakh rupees. The case, concerning the audio leaks, was heard in the High Court.
Justice Babar Sattar questioned the authority of institutions like IB, FIA, and PTA to file requests objecting to him, stating he would consider their requests seriously. He queried the relevance of FIA’s objections to the case, distancing it from issues related to ISI or secret agencies. Additional Attorney General Manoor Iqbal Dogal responded to FIA’s request, mentioning the discussion of agency roles in a petition.
The court raised concerns over defining conflicts of interest, particularly if judges were subjected to executive pressures. It dismissed FIA’s application with a penalty and ordered contempt of court action against DGFIA. The court sought answers from IB, summoning the Joint Director General personally.
Further, Justice Babar Sattar questioned the approval process for IB’s application. The court also addressed PEMRA’s objection, dismissing all petitions, including PEMRA and PTA, with a fine. Contempt of court action against IB, FIA, PTA, and PEMRA authorities was also hinted at.
During the proceedings, lawyers praised Justice Babar Sattar’s stance. Aitzaz Ahsan hailed the court’s order, expressing admiration for Justice Babar Sattar’s courage.
Justice Babar Sattar reiterated to the Additional Attorney General that multiple petitions aiming to transfer the case were meant to disrupt judicial proceedings. He emphasized the need to understand the implications of executive interference on judges and the judicial process, highlighting the importance of maintaining judicial independence.
