
In Islamabad, Justice Qazi Faiz Isa has been sworn in as the 29th Chief Justice of Pakistan. The outgoing Chief Justice, Umar Atta Bandial, retired from his position at midnight, paving the way for Justice Qazi Faiz Isa to assume the role.
The official swearing-in ceremony for the new Chief Justice took place at 11:00 AM at the President’s House. President Dr. Arif Alvi administered the oath of office to Justice Qazi Faiz Isa. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the caretaker prime minister, cabinet members, service chiefs, judges, lawyers, and other officials.
Furthermore, Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa has also taken on the responsibilities of heading the Judicial Commission, which plays a crucial role in the appointment of judges to the higher judiciary. At present, there are two vacant positions in the Supreme Court.
Additionally, Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa has assumed the role of Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, a forum responsible for addressing complaints against judges of the Supreme Court.
In his farewell address, the outgoing Chief Justice, Umar Atta Bandial, emotionally referred to himself as the “setting sun.”
It’s worth noting that Justice Qazi Faiz Isa hails from the Pashin area of Balochistan, one of Pakistan’s less developed provinces. He was born on October 26, 1959, in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan. He is the son of the late Qazi Muhammad Isa, who played a prominent role in the Pakistan Movement alongside Quaid-e-Azam.
