In Islamabad, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council Peshawar has put forth a unanimous resolution, urging all parliamentary parties, including the Parliament, to amend the constitution concerning the process of appointing judges.
The resolution calls for amendments to Article 209, aiming to ensure public access to the proceedings of the Judicial Council, disclosure of judges’ assets in High Courts, and prompt action by the Supreme Judicial Council on pending references within ninety days.
Furthermore, it proposes a halt to the appointment of judges in High Courts or the Supreme Court until formal approval of the Judicial Commission’s rules by the Committee or establishment of clear appointment criteria.
Additionally, the resolution denounces laws targeting the media, as expressed in the declaration following the meeting.
