The provincial capital’s Safari Zoo in Lahore is set to undergo a three-month closure for a significant upgrade to meet international standards.
Starting from November 10, the Safari Zoo on Raiwind Road will be temporarily closed due to the commencement of construction for the initial phase of an extensive international upgrade project.
As part of this endeavor, the Implementation of Master Plan for Safari Zoo Lahore, led by Project Director Mudassir Hassan, will introduce 11 new species of wild animals, including elephants, rhinoceros, giraffes, black jaguars, arex, addex, zebras, adreyal, ostriches, and Nile. Additionally, special enclosures and housing will be constructed to accommodate cows and Chetal deer, and existing enclosures will be adapted for the relocation of other wild animals.
The project encompasses the creation of an African Safari, Desert Safari, Salt Range, and even a night safari experience for tourists. A stunning aquarium featuring 142 species of aquatic life will also be added to the Safari Zoo. Visitors will have the convenience of e-ticketing for their entry.
While the construction work aims to provide enhanced facilities, the Safari Zoo will remain closed for the next three months, starting from November 10, 2023. The management expresses its regret to all patrons, tourists, wildlife enthusiasts, students, and the general public who won’t be able to access the facility temporarily for recreational, educational, and research purposes.
The project director assures everyone that the project team is fully committed to completing the work within the stipulated time and reopening the Safari Zoo to the public. It’s worth noting that Lahore Zoo has also been closed for three months for the transfer of animals and birds during this time.
