NAB has filed a corruption reference against Parvez Elahi and Monis Elahi in Lahore. The case involves alleged kickbacks and bribery related to Gujarat contracts, resulting in a corruption case totaling over 1 billion 23 crore rupees.
The National Accountability Bureau claims that the duo, including 14 others, including misused authority, received kickbacks, and engaged in actions detrimental to the national treasury.
In this filed reference, it’s alleged that Parvez Elahi abused his position to gain kickbacks and bribes while approving 116 development schemes for Gujarat, favoring certain contractors and benefiting financially. Testimonies from Munis Elahi’s secretary, Sohail Awan, and two former government employees support these claims against Parvez Elahi and others.
The reference specifies that the accused, including Parvez Elahi and Monis Elahi, collectively received over 1 billion 23 crore rupees in financial benefits through illicit means. Pervaiz Elahi reportedly received the highest amount, around 744.45 crore rupees, in bribes and kickbacks. Additionally, during Parvez Elahi’s tenure as prime minister, Monis Elahi deposited 1 million 61 thousand Euros into a foreign bank account.
Furthermore, NAB asserts that during Parvez Elahi’s prime ministership, family members deposited over 304 million rupees into their personal accounts. The investigation findings lead NAB to urge the accountability court to conduct a trial and punish the accused, as they’ve been deemed guilty based on the investigation.
