
In Lahore, Mian Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the Muslim League (N), asserted during a manifesto presentation that, even if they end up in the opposition, his party would not resort to the actions of the PTI. He expressed regret at being ousted from the government, emphasizing the pain of the expulsion. Avoiding discussion on the matter, he focused on the party’s manifesto, highlighting differences with the previous ruler and emphasizing unfulfilled promises from the Charter of Democracy.
Nawaz Sharif mentioned the successful outcome of a long march in Gujranwala, where judges were restored. He declined the suggestion to march to Islamabad for the restoration of the Shahbaz government, citing a commitment to democracy despite its violations. Addressing a journalist’s question, he asserted that as the leader of the opposition, he would not initiate a long march to overthrow the government, urging completion of its term.
Reflecting on past political events, Nawaz Sharif criticized the sit-ins against the mandated government, expressing disagreement with the involvement of Tahir-ul-Qadri in Pakistani politics. He recounted discussions with Imran Khan, revealing a cooperative approach in responding to demands.
Nawaz Sharif clarified that if his party were to become the opposition, they would not replicate the actions criticized earlier. He shared an incident where Maulana Fazlur Rehman advised him to form the government in KP, but he declined, advocating for numerically stronger parties to lead. He briefly touched on the issue of the closed RTS, suggesting that if it hadn’t occurred, his party might have formed the central government.
Referring to the Hazara Baradi sit-in in Quetta, Nawaz Sharif criticized Imran Khan for rejecting the demand to meet the protestors, deeming it as blackmail. He revealed a recent decision to remain in the government after receiving an ultimatum from the opposition just hours before their intended departure.
Nawaz Sharif concluded by asserting that many in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were easily misled into voting for Imran Khan.
