The Islamabad High Court has set a date for the hearing of Nawaz Sharif’s appeal regarding the sentence in the Al-Azizia reference, scheduled for December 7. Simultaneously, NAB’s plea to extend Nawaz Sharif’s sentence will also be heard. Nawaz Sharif has lodged an appeal against the accountability court’s ruling.
Chief Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb of the Islamabad High Court will preside over the proceedings. Additionally, a brief written judgment on Nawaz Sharif’s exoneration in the Avenfield reference has been released. The judgment mentions that during the hearing, the NAB prosecutor referenced the case of Maryam Nawaz and Captain R. Safdar.
In the exoneration of Maryam Nawaz and Captain R. Safdar, the court made a notable observation. It stated that NAB lacked documentary evidence to substantiate the case against Nawaz Sharif. Importantly, the acquittal of Maryam Nawaz and Captain R. Safdar remains unchallenged.
The court has sanctioned the appeal against Nawaz Sharif’s sentence and has ordered his exoneration. A comprehensive decision outlining the rationale for the exoneration will be issued subsequently.
