In Lahore, the nomination papers of individuals implicated in the Noumei tragedy, including Hamad Azhar, Musrat Cheema, Jamshed Cheema, Zubair Niazi, and Karamat Khokhar, have been approved by the Election Commission. In response, the police have decided to approach the Anti-Terrorism Court. The main accused, after appearing in court and undergoing investigation, may face a request to prohibit their participation in the election process.
Police sources reveal that party tickets have also been granted to the accused individuals after the approval of their nomination papers. For instance, Mian Aslam Iqbal has received a ticket from PTI, and Ghulam Mohiuddin Dewan will also contest the election on a PTI ticket, along with Karamat Khokhar.
The police assert that it is legally questionable for the accused to participate in elections related to the serious Noumei cases. As a result, they plan to seek court orders urging the Election Commission to reconsider the approval of nomination papers for the accused individuals, highlighting the absence of specific regulations in the election commission rules regarding the eligibility of those involved in the Noumei tragedy.
