The Islamabad High Court has mandated a meeting with Bushra Bibi, the spouse of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, on the occasion of Eid.
During the court session, requests concerning Bushra Bibi’s transfer from Bani Gala Sub Jail to Adiala Jail and a meeting with the PTI founder were addressed, with the court ordering the meeting to take place.
The court questioned the government’s authority to designate private property as a sub-jail and adjourned the hearing indefinitely, calling for further arguments at the next session. The State Council informed the court that the Director Law had inspected Banigala sub-jail as per the court’s directive and submitted a report. The court instructed the State Council to provide a copy of the report to the petitioner, noting that the visiting officer had found the facilities satisfactory at Bani Gala Sub Jail.
Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb expressed dissatisfaction with the administration’s report and the chief commissioner of Adiala Jail for not transferring Bushra Bibi to Adiala Jail and facilitating a meeting with Imran Khan, alleging political motives behind the actions.
During a discussion with the State Council, Justice Mian Gul Hasan mentioned that despite claims of overcrowding, 141 women had been admitted after January 31. He questioned the inconsistency between overcrowding claims and the admission of new prisoners, suggesting a perception of preferential treatment for those imprisoned in Bani Gala.
Justice Mian Gul Hasan criticized the failure of the authorities to satisfy the court’s concerns, accusing them of undermining the rule of law and aiming to diminish its credibility.
